I started into RC when I was old enough to walk (see embarrassing childhood picture). I flew along side my dad up until about ’94 when I took a LONG break. Then in the mid 2000’s when the Predator drone was debuted to the public I took a interest in the hobby. Mostly to build and create my own drone. I joined Northern VA Radio Control and started flying again. After flying pattern for about 2 years I became bored and quickly took on flying FPV in 2005. In 2008, along with four other guys, I helped the AMA draft the first version of SC550 which is the rules for FPV.
As a member of NVRC I served on the board for several years. I also helped pilot the adopt-a-school program with Westfield High School in Fairfax County. The partership between NVRC and Westfield helped provide NVRC with venue for indoor events. To this day an average of 40 people attend the indoor events at WFHS.
Since moving to San Diego and joining SEFSD I’ve grown more interested in personal drones. My focus has gone from flying a plane on a precision pattern to telling the plane to fly on a precision pattern on its own. During the afternoons and weekends at Mission Bay you can find me tinkering with my drone. Mostly collecting flight data and analyzing it. At group events in the desert you’ll find me pushing the limits of what my aircraft can do.
I look forward to 2014 and what the new board can do for SEFSD. Hopefully taking some of the lessons learned at my previous club and applying them at ours.
