President’s Corner for April – May 2025

On April 1st, the Mission Bay Park Committee voted against spending $600k to create a plan to develop South Shores, which is great news for us. They cited the need to first do an analysis of where the toxic landfill is. This means the whispers in our club that our field will have to give way to development can be laid to rest. As long as we maintain safe operations, we’ll be here for many years to come.
I would like to thank those who help to keep our club running smoothly. From Dennis, who arrives early after rainy days to see if we can remove the red lock, to Frank, whose great photos published our Facebook promotes our activity and gets new members to join, to John, who has helped maintain our runway, and is looking into repairing some fence posts that are getting corroded, and stapling down the carpet where it’s starting to wrap upwards and become a trip hazard.
While our club takes proactive measures to maintain a safe flying site, please do your part by avoiding leaning on the fence, as the posts may fail, and you will damage the fence and get injured. Also please watch your step at the edges of the carpet, especially where it’s beginning to warp upwards, to prevent tripping. We will get it stapled or secured as soon as possible.
On Sunday May 4th, Sea World Dr will be closed from 6:15 – 10am for a triathlon. The event director has coordinated with us this year to ensure we have access. We can either arrive before 6:00am, or we will need to arrive from the Point Loma / Sports Arena side during the closure. If you have any issues accessing the site, call CALL TOBIAS 858-255-9709.
