We are approaching the end of the year, but your board of directors is still hard at work keeping our membership happy, and our club growing. During October, we get a few prospective members ask if they have to join for 2025 in order to fly the rest of the year. Pilots who wish to use our field must pay to join/renew up until October 31st. After that, they may fly as a guest in November, and until the 2026 registration system is online, which will be around the first week of December. We have looked various times into changing the system to allow prorated memberships, but determined that the potential members gained is not worth the effort, and it would put an undue burden on the board, and our membership coordinator, Peter, who would have to mail out dozens of badges each month.
President’s Corner for Oct – Nov 2025
I’m also getting a few requests now from various young, prospective pilots eager to try out our hobby prior to joining our club. I’m looking for a point of contact in our club who I can direct these people to. You would be talking to the parents, of course, and giving them a “discovery flight”. Right now, I don’t have a concrete answer to give them, and don’t want to lose out on potential new members, especially the youth. So if anyone can step up, please let me know.
Our AMA election is coming up, and this year, one of the candidates for National President is Greg Stone, from southern California! You should’ve all received your ballots by now, and if you haven’t turned it in, please do so before November 7th. Greg’s platform is education, STEM, and youth engagement.
Lastly, the board is keeping an eye on runway condition. We are constantly evaluating different soil treatments. It is challenging because the City of San Diego governs what we can do, and it is a public park where homeless people and vandals can come in when we’re not there. When we do our next round of maintenance, we’re going to switch to a more durable product that should get us results longer.
See you guys at the field!
